Let's Talk Bedrooms

I am waaay behind on sprucing up our guest bedroom and sharing the (pretty much) finished master bedroom re-do.

Here is what our guest bedroom looked like when we first moved in.  Sage-y green walls natural wood trim.

And here is where it's at today.  We painted 3 walls a creamy tan and 1 accent wall a chocolate-y brown.

However, it is in dire need of some furniture and accents.  That blank wall over the bed is begging for some kind of art.

I love this vintage light I found a few months ago and a thrift store.  This will be my jumping off point when it comes to a color scheme.

This end table used to be in our living room at our old apartment.  Now it will serve as a nightstand and will be getting a new paint color in the future.

I just found this accent pillow at HomeGoods.  It will help by bringing in some blues to the room.

This part of the room is in need of the most help.  The dresser will be leaving but what to put in its place??  I'm thinking either a sitting area with a comfy armchair and ottoman or putting in floor-to-ceiling bookcases.

And here are some inspiration photos I've found via Pinterest.  I would love to replace the current headboard with one of these vintage headboards.

I'm loving the green and aqua colors of this dresser.  We have a vintage dresser we are planning to paint for the guest bedroom so this might be a possibility.

And these are the colors I would like to bring to the bedroom.  Greens, aquas and some vintage patina.

Lastly, I think I want to find an old map to hang above the bed.  I LOVE it!

Moving on to our master bedroom...

We just recently purchased this rug from Rugs USA and I love it!  It really grounds the room and the colors blend so well.

My vanity table fits perfectly in our little alcove.  I'm on the lookout for a new chair or stool to use here.  I would love to find a simple chair that I could dip-paint the legs.

This wall is still awaiting a mirror.  I haven't found one that fits the style of the mid-century dresser.

My Ikea curtains still need to be hemmed...oops :)

Metamorphosis Mondays

Springtime Plants

Now that spring is here and Easter is just around the corner, it's time to lighten things up and add some greenery to the house.

At a recent Ikea trip I picked up some succulents in their garden department.

I potted them in a vintage coffee pot and an old change jar I had on a shelf.

I think it adds some spring color to my dining room table.

The "placemats" on the table are Ikea rugs. The perfect pastel green.

The living room got some attention too with this plant and pot, also from Ikea.

I am in love with this bright pink and orange color combo lately.

I don't want to jinx myself but so far this plant is hanging in there and really looking great!

House plants can really breathe new life into a space.

Welome to My Kitchen

I'm joining Thrifty Decor Chick and showing my kitchen.

My favorite part is the built-in banquette that my dad built.

And my mom recently spotted these cafe curtains at JcPenney for under $10 for all 6!

For a little pizzaz we decided to tile the entire back wall. And it actually looks even better at night as it glistens under the light.

And here's a look at the other side. And do you spy...

...this little guy. This is his drawer full of baking tools.

And there you have my kitchen!

The Ultimate Hidden Storage

Here is what our kitchen was recently looking like. But there is one thing that was driving us nuts...no counter space!

For the time being, there is nothing we can do about the bottles and drying rack :( However, we can gain some major counter space by moving the microwave.

Luckily there is an electrical outlet in the under the banquette so my husband just drilled a hole in the side of the cabinet. And voila!

Instant counter space!

And it's not an inconvenience at all to just reach a little lower to use the microwave.

Ahhh...much better :)

Between Naps on the Porch

A Wall of Tile

We've been in need of a tile backsplash ever since we moved into our home 1 year ago.

But instead of just a backsplash underneath the cabinets, we decided to tile the entire wall.
And since a big window occupies this wall it really wouldn't add up to that much tile but enough for a big impact.
Here is the kitchen before:
And here is the after with the entire wall tiled.

I think it really adds a subtle texture to the room.

Originally, we thought we'd go with a penny tile but fell in love with this larger honeycomb pattern on our first shopping trip.
It's an off-white glazed clay tile.
The brown border picks up the brown in our countertops and goes well with the darker cabinets.

Next up is adding the trim/molding to the cabinets and windows, cafe curtains, and a rug for the kitchen table.
